Local activists and social service providers over ten years ago highlighted the need for reentry services in the area, most notably by holding workshops including a public forum at the Broome County Library attended by the mayor and local representatives.  Formerly incarcerated persons led a subsequent effort to assist those returning to the community;  this effort was subsequently displaced by a new state reentry effort directed by and through the state and local parole and police agencies.  More background material on this history, and new efforts, is forthcoming.
