On April 19th JUST members and friends warmly rallied, as snow fell, vs. death and abuse in the county jail. The occasion? The Sheriff’s reelection fundraising gala–forcing the Sheriffs and guest to avoid the truth by slinking in through back doors of the lushly catered private event. More coverage here

“Interrupting the Criminalization of Youth of Color Through Creating Restorative Communities
Free and open to the public. Mariame Kaba is the founder and director of Project NIA, a grassroots organization with a vision to end youth incarceration, and has founded multiple organizations and projects over the years including the Chicago Freedom School, the Chicago Taskforce on Violence against Girls and Young Women, the Chicago Alliance to Free Marissa Alexander and the Rogers Park Young Women’s Action Team (YWAT) among others.
Broome County Loses Lawsuit, Juveniles Win!
April 4 2018: victory! The Sheriff and County resisted settling, and they lost: the judge’s decision came down firmly and completely in support of the 2017 lawsuit against the abuse of juveniles in the jail. More information and documents may be found here.
