There are three SCOC commissioners appointed by the Governor:
Allen Riley, Commissioner
Thomas Loughren
Yolanda Canty
All have long histories of overseeing incarcerated people (bios here): Commissioner Riley served 27 years as a New York State Police officer, and more than 7 years as Sheriff of Madison County before being appointed in April 2018. Commissioner Loughren served for 40 years as a police officer and then Chenango County Sheriff. Commissioner Canty worked for 28 years in the NY Department of Corrections, rising to Warden.
Riley and Loughren receive state pensions as well as there SCOC salaries:
Riley $67,112 pension (2021), $170,000 SCOC pay (2021)
Loughren: $39,168 pension (2021), $119,570 SCOC pay (2021)
Canty $144,001 pension (2021), $159,200 SCOC (2021) (she earned $ 246,372 in 2019 for the NYC Department of Corrections).
